Macaw Parrots
Macaw Parrots were originally imported into the US from Mexico, Central & South America. These parrots, as a species, if nothing else is ever said about them, to say they are gorgeous is an understatement. Macaw Parrots are one of the flashiest of all the pet birds due to both color & size. Macaw Parrot sizes range from the largest of the species which is the Hyacinthin with its length ranging in the 40" area & topping out at about 50 oz., to the smaller Mini Macaws, the Severe Macaw Parrots & the Yellow-Collared Macaw Parrots at 15" long & 9 oz. As with all the large birds we market, the Macaws are hand fed as babies. The life span of Macaw Parrots is 25 to 50 years or more.
As a pet bird, these parrots require attention but give back tremendous amounts of affection. The vocabulary of these birds can become extensive & tricks are often easily learned. Because of their bulk & large stature Macaw Parrots may prefer to walk & climb around small areas rather than fly. Their powerful beaks can easily crack a macadamia or Brazil nut. The Mini Macaw Parrots require less attention, make good pets & can also learn to talk & do tricks. Most Macaws like to chew, so supply them with plenty of wood or natural, non-toxic branches.
Availability of Babies: The majority are available beginning in August.

Green-Winged Macaw

 | Green-winged macaws are 33 to 36" on length & weigh between 42 & 49 oz. when grown. These macaws are particularly kind to children & other pets. They tend to get along well in a family situation with their pleasing & gentle personality but are easily frightened by sudden noises & movements. |
Red-fronted Macaw

 | These macaws are a bit smaller than some of the other Macaw Parrots at 24" long & weighing about 19 oz.. The coloring of these birds is dissimilar to that of all the other macaws. In size Red-fronted Macaw Parrots seem to be the transition between standard Macaws & Mini Macaws. |
Scarlet Macaw

 | There has always been a good demand for Scarlet Macaw Parrots as pet birds as well as display birds because of their brilliant color & their affection toward their keepers. They ordinarily become bonded to one person. They love to bathe & talking gives them an outlet for boredom, which can otherwise turn into screeching. |
